READ BELOW ABOUT THE JULY 2013 HIKE

A warm clear morning greeted the 20 hikers gathered for District 5050’s third annual hike.

This year 5 vehicles transported the hikers from the gathering spot (Shell station near 240 – Alger exit) to the West side of the Oyster Dome to the parking lot at Samish Overlook – elevation about 1,000 ft.

The gentle slope from the Overlook soon turned into a challenging 1,000 foot gain over a meandering trail.

At times the climb was hard, but was offset by the beautiful trees and forest canopy.

The hikers were rewarded with a fantastic clear view from the rock outcrop (Oyster Dome) where we enjoyed a
lunch – made to perfection by each hiker from supplies provided by Jan Jones (RC Burlington).

Patsy Martin and Dan
(RC Burlington) did an excellent job of leading the hike.

We appreciate your input so that the hike(s) could serve as more than a simple recreational event.

The guests invited on this hike were able to meet and speak with Rotarians.

How does a hike in late September sound?  This would allow our exchange students to participate.
