2013-14 Rotary International President Ron Burton's theme for the new Rotary year (July 2013 to June 2014) is Engage Rotary, Change Lives

The RI theme was first announced at the 2013 International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA, the annual training event for incoming district governors.

President Burton urged every Rotarian to get involved, to get engaged, and to change lives.

“If we really want to take Rotary service forward, then we must make sure that every single Rotarian has the same feeling about Rotary that each one of us here has today,” Burton said. “We need to make sure that every Rotarian has a meaningful role to play, that they’re all making a contribution, and that their contribution is valued.”

Rotary District 5050 Governor Denis Boyd - attending the International Assembly when the announcement was made, sent this message about the theme:

Greetings from San Diego.

I'm in the midst of the International Assembly where all the other DGEs from around the world have gathered for training and fellowship. RI President Elect Ron Burton announced his theme this morning and I think it is an excellent focus for our year ahead: "Engage Rotary, Change Lives."

It seems to me that the secret of our future success has everything to do with "Engagement." We can get new Rotarians but we have a hard time hanging on to the ones we have. If a Rotarian is engaged in their passion within their club, they stick around. One of the best ways to get Rotarians engaged is to have hands on projects; not just fund raisers. We need both of course but getting our hands dirty from time to time in the pursuit of service above self is crucial.
